Endangered Species And Teenagers!

Eeeek!
We had a great time looking for the "recycle fairy" and making bird feeders out of milk cartons, but as I heard from everyone we just are not THAT into the recycling stuff this year and we want to move on to the Animals! Okay okay I hear ya! We did a neat little piece that I was sent by PG&E (thanks guys!) and learned all about how to be safe and save energy....but now we move on!
So the Endangered Species Fair is in Chico at Bidwell Park in early May. I think it is May 2nd but I am not positive. We will have a booth and my daughter will have a booth dedicated to the orangutans. Our Roots and Shoots booth will be called.....drum roll please....
"The Rain Forest and Beyond!"
I want the kids to show how there are endangered animals everywhere, not just in the rain forest. So starting at our next meeting we are teaming up with a great group of kids from P.V High and are going to find out all about endangered animals that live here in our country. We will have games and prizes and information for the public. I also plan on having t-shirts for sale that the kids at both, P.V and Marigold will have designed in a art contest. All the money will go to help endangered animals.
So on to explain the teenagers...we have teamed up with a group at P.V called A.V.I.D They are working on having more on their resumes for college than just good grades. I met with the kids and told them all about our group and what we do. I thought with all the letter writing and "older kids" activity that was coming up with the fair I wanted to have not just volunteers but helpers that would get something out of this experience too. Their advisor seems excited about it as well. We will be extending our hours of the meeting to accommodate the older kids.
I hope to start a anti-palm oil campaign as well as writing letters to the states for information about their endangered animals.
Yes we will be busy! We are also hoping to have a booth at our own spring carnival at the school. The kids will talk to Mr. Severe about that soon!
We are also still planing on taping the teachers to the wall for fun. This will be done at spring carnival!
Lots of excitement coming up, Thanks for all of your patience with me during the school board crisis. I am back now and ready to go!
